My viewpoint, and the ethos behind Many Truths (see: www.manytruths.com), is that only through becoming peaceful people can we ever hope to achieve peace in the world. My experience, in my lifetime, is that our truths divide us. That we tend to stand a bit righteous in our own truth and our choices - with an innate need to be right, which then makes everyone and everything else "wrong". This perpetuates the conflict, inspires the separation, and kindles the fear between us. I believe it takes change inside all of us - a look at our own judgments and prejudices, our roles in separation and division, and our contributions to the conflict in our families, our communities and our world - to make a difference in peace. If we do not allow for differences among the many people in this diverse world that we share, what will become of us? Peace will not come through government intervention, or protest, or the need for one, prevailing truth. We have been there, and tried that - for centuries. It will only come from the inside - from inside the hearts of people. Every gesture of peacefulness creates a moment of peace. Many moments of peace create opportunity for tangible change. If we become more of this- if we become more considerate, tolerant and accepting of the many truths in the world - what might we create? If we are about good things, can we peacefully co-exist as a world of more than one, my own, truth?
